Starting with Aeron? Discover three new Aeron Premium tools to ensure your project success.

If you are starting a new project to build a highly available, mission-critical trading system Aeron is the global standard, and Aeron Premium can help bring that project to life faster and with greater confidence.

Aeron Premium offers enhancements to performance, resilience and security. While these qualities still matter, especially when considering cloud deployment, users have also asked for improvements to getting up and running and into production quickly and safely. Early on in development, it’s about establishing stability, reducing complexity, and avoiding the kinds of risks that can slow momentum.

Introducing the latest Aeron Premium software components

With that in mind, we spent the past year developing three new tools for Aeron Premium, specifically designed to help new Aeron based projects get to production faster and with less risk. Based on both community feedback and our own experience, we identified a set of challenges nearly every team faces. These challenges are often solved with bespoke scripts, manual processes, or in-house tools, where quality and reliability matter deeply. This led us to create:

Each addresses a critical pain point that teams encounter early on, saving months of engineering effort and reducing long-term maintenance burdens.

Those long-term maintenance costs are easy to overlook at the beginning of a project, but for systems expected to be the backbone of critical infrastructure for years, or even decades, minimizing technical debt early is essential to sustaining technical intensity over time. In the sections that follow, we’ll look at each of these Premium tools in turn and how they can add immediate value to your Aeron project.

Aeron Insights: Early warning and alerting for Aeron Cluster

Extending that foundation, Aeron Insights provides teams with a practical way to monitor the health and behavior of their Aeron Cluster deployments. While Aeron is designed for high performance, diagnosing issues in a distributed system can be challenging, especially during early stages when configuration is still evolving. Aeron Insights addresses this by exposing key operational metrics through an API, along with a starter UI to help teams surface and interpret cluster-level information. It’s particularly useful for catching common misconfigurations, such as incorrect timeouts or mismatched cluster settings, that can be hard to spot but have a significant impact. The tool is valuable across environments, from development through to production, and its API-first design makes it easy to integrate into existing monitoring and alerting systems. For teams running Aeron Cluster, Insights helps reduce time to detect and resolve issues, improving both reliability and confidence in the system.

SBE Domain Mapper: Improve the productivity of teams working with Simple Binary Encoding

When teams are starting fresh with Aeron, they’re often building systems where performance and reliability are non-negotiable. While not every Aeron project uses Simple Binary Encoding (SBE), many do because SBE is a natural fit when you need a compact, high-performance data format. That said, using SBE effectively can be tricky without the right tooling. That’s where the SBE Domain Mapper comes in.

Designed by the team behind Aeron and the SBE reference implementation on Github, this premium tool helps new projects get up to speed fast by turning SBE messages into clean domain events or method calls, and back again. It cuts out repetitive boilerplate, bakes in best practices, and handles common pitfalls like field ordering, flyweight safety, and schema validation—so your team can focus on building the business logic that matters. With the SBE Domain Mapper, you’re not just saving time—you’re reducing risk, improving consistency across codebases, and giving your team the confidence to move fast on a solid, high-performance foundation.

Data Retention Regulator: Control disk usage in Aeron Cluster and Aeron Archive environments

The third tool we have developed over the past year to support new Aeron projects is the Data Retention Regulator. One issue we’ve seen repeatedly is teams getting into production with Aeron Cluster or Aeron Archive, only to realize, often under pressure, that their disk usage is climbing rapidly. At that point, the typical response is to build an ad hoc script or manual process to clear space, which can be risky and difficult to maintain. If not well managed, unchecked archive growth is a common cause of operational issues, including outages. The Data Retention Regulator helps teams avoid that scenario entirely by making data retention a first-class concern from day one. It allows you to define flexible policies that control how long data is kept, with support for both CLI use and programmatic integration. Built-in policies account for cluster recovery requirements, ensuring critical data is preserved while old or unnecessary segments are safely removed. For new projects, it’s an essential safeguard that helps keep systems stable and maintainable as they scale.

Summary: Key tools for a successful Aeron project launch

Bringing a mission-critical system into production is a complex task, but with the right tools, it doesn’t have to be slow or risky. The three new Aeron Premium components we’ve introduced- the SBE Domain Mapper, Aeron Insights, and the Data Retention Regulator are built to solve common challenges teams face early in their journey. Each tool helps reduce manual effort, improve system reliability, and set a strong foundation for long-term success.
